Collective arts Rhubarb & Hibiscus
Distilled Gin — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed April 18, 2024 (edited April 20, 2024)New to Gin.... On the nose, I find this Gin to be so good... So much citrus flavor that easily translate to the palate. There's that Gin, almost chemical flavor, but the citrus is so good, that reminds (a little) of 7up. First I tried this neat and it got my attention. A put a slpash of water to tame the alcohol a bit and it tamed the tartiness a little bit, but the citrus flavor and aroma still comes through. This is a very decent Gin. -
I am not a Gin person. One of my co-workers shared some with me, so I am giving it a go. I do not know anything about gin, besides the basic. On the nose, this is very aromatic, I think most Gins are that way. There's some citrus notes, a little sweet. The palate seems sweet, which is surprising, but there's a little alcohol burn. The finish is short. I think when it comes to Gin, this one is ok. Cheers.

Fox & Oden Double Oaked Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Michigan (Distilled in Indiana), USA
Reviewed April 7, 2024Picked this one, as i like double oaked whiskey. The nose was melow with dark sugar and oak. The palate drew more of thise nose, but there was a little more sweetness an a little hars finish. With an abv of 49.5%, made this an easy sip for me. First Fox and Oden that i uave tried. Mine was batch #3. -
Starting on this journey... This is not what I expected. On the nose, there was nothing that reminded me of Tequila, the distinct Agave notes were not there, maybe some fruity flavors? The agave notes came in on the palate, but very light. Surprisingly the flavors on the palate were not off-putting, but there were not the traditional agave/tequila notes. I think @Dan_Giggy hit it, maybe this is a mix tequila and for an average of $35 could be worth it. I drink most of my spirits neat, or with a splash of water, so this one doesn't have the traditional tequila notes I was looking for when I tried it neat.

A noob in the Tequila and Mezcal field, but having various Islay scotches under my bell, this Mezcal hit me right. To start, I was not aware of how much smoke is abosorbed by a Mezcal, so this is a plus. In addition to the smokey notes on the nose, there's a little briny/salty. The palate is peppery, salty, lemon zest and that smoky goodness. Overall, I guess I like Mezcal, it reminds me of those Islay whiskys.

I am out of my comfort zone here. I received a few Tequila samples from a friend, so why not. On the nose, agave... (sounding like a noob), this is so easy to pick up, also lime/lemon zest. The palate is a little peppery, lemon zest, easy to drink, not much alcohol burn and the finish is pleasant, with a little tart/dryness... something there that I cannot describe... still learning. I heard that people put this on ice, but at 40%, I don't want to chance it and dilute the flavor.

Well... another spirit by celebrities that more likely do not care about the craft, maybe they do, or maybe just another group trying to cash in on the market. As far as the spirit, it comes in at 40%, so this is very light (water-like). The nose shows some basic bourbon notes, althought the mash bill is unknown to me, it gives me the impression that is high Rye, with some spices (light), cloves, herbs, burn sugar. The palate is super light... I would not chance it to add water or put it on ice, as it will disolve whatever little flavor it has. The finish, as expected is short lived. FOr the average price of $40 SRP, a RR10, MM46, 1792 SB.. are more flavourful and better quality.

Disclosure... I am not a fan of Rye whiskey, but this one is OK. On the nose there's this grass, not really int, but minty aromas, maybe a slight coco (very faint in the background), herbs. In the palate spices come out to play, some tartiness, dill or pickles, and more spices, not pepper. I think the ABV helps me with this one, as if this was on the high 50s%, it would have been too hot/spicy for me. Next time I will try it with a dash of water.

Holladay 6 Year Soft Red Wheat Rickhouse Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Missouri , USA
Reviewed March 26, 2024The nose on this one is soft and floral, with hints of cereal. Although this is rickhouse proof, the nose is not overpowering. The palate brings cereal notes, with spices, but not as much heat as the Straight Bourbon Whiskey Rickhouse Proof. There's a little heat, but I think the sweetness of the wheat helps turn it down a bit. The finish is long, with a bit of a burn. With a little water, I get some berries (?) and cherry coke-like notes on the nose, but the palate has more cereal and nutty flavors. I think more cereal/oatmeal notes, and the finish is soft and medium. I like this one. -
Ben Holladay Missouri Straight Rickhouse Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Missouri, USA
Reviewed March 26, 2024 (edited March 30, 2024)I had to let this one open up a little bit. Straight from the bottle, it was hot, so a little time was the right choice. The nose shows some nutty aromas, with a little cinnamon and all spice. I am trying this one neat, so the palate gave me something like almond dust, cinnamon and pepper. The finish was long with more heat. I put a little water and the heat went away, and more nutty/sawdust notes on the nose and a little sweetness and less pepper on the palate. Nice.
