Regular laphroaig 10 amazed me as my first taste of peated scotch. I’ve since tried expressions from multiple Islay distilleries and other peated whiskeys. This cask strength 10 is definitely at the top of my list from what I have tried.
Nose is smokey, vanilla, caramelly malt, a touch of brine, and raisin. Overall much sweeter than I expected.
Taste is peat smoke, dense woody brine, raisin sweetness, and a tannic bitterness that fills the mouth. Absent for me is the iodine note form regular 10.
Finish lingers for at least a minute. The heat from the proof and the astringency fades ever so slowly with the brine and smoke lingering as well.
Outstanding whiskey, especially for the price.
