Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C924

Have had this in my cellar for a few years, time to taste it, neat. Dark golden brown and strong coating legs in the glass. Nose I can smell from 2 feet away--charred oak, vanilla, caramelized sugar like a creme brulee, and a whiff of spice and ethanol (62.55% ABV). On the palate, big charred vanilla oak, leather, chocolate, burnt sugar, and an ethanol bloom. Big and chewy, oily coating mouthfeel, but dry. The taste then turns spicy pepper, clove, peppery sweetgrass, and tingly mint, with a burnt sugar baseline. More spicy than I remember past bottles--quite spicy given there's no rye in this wheated bourbon. The finish is long and mint chocolate, tingly, clean, very nice. An ice cube tames the ethanol a touch, but this barrel proof powers through the melt and remains a really powerful, spicy, interesting bourbon. Wish I could taste test some older versions against this one, but... I really like the dark chewy nature of this beast. Just looked--Breaking Bourbon gave it a 3.5/5 and named it the best of the three 2024 Larceny lots, and Fred Minnock rated it the #7/100 best whiskey of 2024. Probably why I bought it and put it away. A good choice.

Review #357 Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Apple, graham cracker, caramel. Palate: Cinnamon red hots, clove, black pepper. Finish: Long length with medium heat and lasting black pepper. Splash: A dry oak note appears, but the pepper note continues. Overall: 9/10 - The black pepper note reminds me of Old Grand Dad 114, but this is higher proof and more complex. I generally enjoy Larceny Barrel Proof, and this is no different, but within the botches of Larceny BP that I’ve had this is one of the more interesting ones.

The nose is cloves, the flavor is chocolate fudge. Can really tell it is a wheated, cery smooth little to no burn. With it being barrel proof an 125.1 proof it can be veey dangerous.

Solid, except for the finish.The finish comes across bitter and unpleasant. 01/07/26 - Upgraded rating from 3 to 4. The finish smoothed out for me after the bottle breathed a bit. Solid bottle, would buy agsin..

These always hit. Burnt caramels, some bready baking spices and vanilla extract. Less nutty than most Larceny BPs for me.
