Caramel and sweet corn come to mind on the nose, with a hint of barrel spice and hay. The taste flips and is spicy up front with cinnamon, but mellows to a nice crème brûlée finish.
Nose: Red wine grapes, dark fruits, oak.
Palate: Burnt caramel, vanilla, oak, gentle heat.
Finish: Rye, spicy, loads of black pepper, some vanilla, cherry appears way after the swallow.
Very nice mouthfeel. Some nutty and fruity flavors coming in over the bourbon flavors. The sherry really shines in this bourbon. A hint of bitterness at the end but a few drops of water brings out a bit more of a creamy finish. The finish also leaves my palate a bit dry. I’m also a scotch drinker and this reminds me of a sherry cask finished scotch which I really enjoy. It’s really good but I’m afraid for this particular bourbon, the more I drink it, the less I like it. Time will tell if I end up buying another bottle.
Beautiful nose! Delicately floral w/o being "soapy," apple, oak, mandarin, soft cinnamon. Taste is lovely & complex: floral, light cinnamon apple, caramel, orange, orange peel, white pepper. Creamy mouthfeel. Spicy, apple & floral notes linger in a long finish... eventually spice fades and leaves the rest.
The nose is creamy and rich, with little heat or spice coming through. Macadamia nut and white chocolate chip cookies come to mind. The first sip brings a little spice to the party, along with the continuing nutty notes. Vanilla bean, bitter chocolate, and finishing with a silky cinnamon sugar mouth feel.
There's definitely a sweetness coming from the wine and sherry casks. Also woodiness though not the strong oak that comes with many other whiskies. I found it benefits from either a splash of water or maybe an ice cube just to dial it down a notch. It's a nice easy sipping whisky.
