Litchfield Cask Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Vanilla and a butterscotch note. Palate: Cinnamon and some baking spice. Finish: Long length ith medium heat. Splash: Clove notes appear. Overall: 8/10 - Litchfield turns out some good whiskey, but having had the chance to thief a 7 year old 132 proof version of this leaves me wanting that. We know what this hiskey could become, but they say that there isn’t a market for it. I humbly disagree.

Single barrel store pick “The Red Dragon” Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Apples, peaches , apricots, raisins. Palate: Clove, cinnamon, baking spice, a bit of oak. Finish: Long length with medium heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed, but the palate becomes more even with the finish. Overall: 8.5/10 - I had sampled this at the store and was impressed enough to buy a bottle. I'm glad I did as this is well above average from a craft distillery. I like where this is going.

Heavy wood char and smoke but smooth; missing traditional sweet caramels, vanilla and cinnamon notes; high proof lingers on tongue even after finish; rich, fruity nose with high proof very apparent; oak tastes with corn and wood chew; sharp tart and spice palate; complexity missing, very hot finish; comes right at you immediately with spicey wood alcohol pop. Not worth a higher price point unless looking to experience a smaller Connecticut maker.
