Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A124
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 20, 2024 (edited February 23, 2024)Tropical, cherry, floral, honey nose. Light, tropical fruits, cherry and peppermint that evolves into a heavier, oaky dry chew. Finishes with more of same with some apricot, citrus and slight bit of pear. Not as hot as expected for 124.2 proof. Batch A124. This one leaves me wanting to discover more on subsequent pours.70.0 USD per Bottle -
Strong ethanol nose. Heavy, wheat dominant juice. Black licorice is prevalent with earthy, grassy substance. Very subtle hints of honey and perhaps some citrus and vanilla on introduction. One review mentioned a Scotch like resemblance - I agree. Perhaps it is the 4-grain mash that makes it diverge from traditional bourbon. Batch B-23.72.0 USD per Bottle

Cherry, wheat mash dominant. Slightly flat at first intro but quickly materializes in fizzy cherry wholesomeness. Some oak barrel present in presentation and chew. The heat is disguised by a strong flavor profile. Finish is sparkling cherry and not as hot as expected for 118 proof. Some butterscotch picked up in subsequent pours. Not sure this is worth a $130 bottle investment at MSRP but if you can try it at a bar or tasting enjoy!

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A124
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2024 (edited February 28, 2024)Starts smooth and sweet and then immediately pops with crisp, dancing sensations of traditional bourbon flavors. Not heavy on oak but I was aware it was there striking a good balance with traditional bourbon flavors and baking spices. As expected, finishes hot. Very good pour and probably my favorite barrel proof I've tried after Stagg. I found it at MSRP so all the better. -

Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2023 (edited December 11, 2023)Full flavor profile, traditional caramel, cinnamon, honey, marshmellow, vanilla with peppery spice; heavy oak notes; similar profile to Buffalo Trace but heavier, creamy. Very serviceable and drinkable but lacks meaningdul depth. Reasonable bottle to pick up at $45-50 price point. -
This single barrel was from cask #454, only 280 bottles sourced. A sourced whiskey from undisclosed Tennessee distillery and bottled in Texas. Light color in appearance; sweet, floral nose; light, floral with touch of fruit and honey on palate; nothing special to me on chew; unimpressive tanginess on finish that contrasts with lighter, sweeter, smoother palate; not terrible, it can be enjoyed, but overall I cant get excited about.55.0 USD per Bottle

Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast Bottled in Bond Bourbon (Spring 2018 Vintage)
Bourbon — California, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2023 (edited November 19, 2023)Alot to explore here and dive into. Reviewed well by several tasters at recent casual friend's tasting. Reminds me of an Old Forester mash, and in fact I intend to do a comparison tasting in the future. This is an interesting crafted bourbon, and a plus for bottled in bond. Smooth, consistent, some syrup throughout the tasting experience. Dark cherry is what is prevalent with some other fruits and tanginess that I have difficulty picking out on first tasting. This is a 5-grain bourbon, and the 2018 batch has a different mash than the 2017 4-grain mash. A light, syrupy chew. For a 5-year, this is smooth and consistent throughout, and as expected missing wood oak notes. With some aging years added in the future, I really look forward to what this Northern California distillery offers in the future to grow on this 5-year tasting experience. I's like to see this more in the $60-70 range.80.0 USD per Bottle
