Maior Gin

A crisp, 100% local Gin by Bodegas Suau in Mallorca, Spain crafted with juniper, rosemary, Sóller orange peel & fig leaf using the original family recipe first distilled in 1919. 4 different distillations are carried out so that the unique components of each of the botanicals are not lost. The fig leaf is distilled at a lower temperature, as it is very delicate. It opens with notes of citrus, berries & herbs; while a Mediterranean life adds notes of juniper, Sóller oranges, fig leaves & rosemary; that led to a crisp & balanced death of medium length. A pleasant Gin, slightly sweet, quite friendly and gentle, perhaps lacking a bit of character but, apparently they aimed for simplicity so, it was well executed.

I’ve not quite made it to the Mediterranean yet, but I hope it smells like this… Seriously though, it’s a nose from somewhere rich and varied and beautiful. Less herbal and less complex than Gin Mare, but more fruity and tropical. Notes here of sweet oranges, rosemary, flowers, Sprite, thyme and juniper. On the palate it’s rich and sweet, lots of candied orange, with confectioner’s sugar, rosemary, white icing, pine needles and Sprite. There’s a touch of spice at the finish but no real heat. Though personally I think it could benefit from a higher proof, and it’s a little on the sweet side, this is an easy sipper, which of course carries its own value. A steal at 24.99 (on sale for 22.99), it draws my mind somewhere else…más agradable, más relajado, más….…ugh. Recuerdo que desafortunadamente el despertador sonará en la mañana… oh well, this will work for now.
