Martell Blue Swift
Martell // Cognac, France
This brandy, or "eau de vie de vin", from Martell is made by taking Martell VSOP cognac aged in French oak casks and finishing it in barrels previously used to age Kentucky bourbon. The spirit is bottled at 80-proof.
Other BrandyBrandy distilled from any type of fruit-based wine produced anywhere in the world. Not referring to any of the designated or protected areas such as Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados, etc.
Cask TypeFrench oak and American Bourbon Oak
"The first thing to notice when pouring this brandy is its dark color, a result presumably of its time in bourbon barrels. On the first sip, the influence of American oak comes through with sweet notes of vanilla and a little smoke. As this fades, the fruitiness of the brandy comes through. This seems like a brandy designed to appeal to bourbon drinkers, and it combines aspects of both spirits to good effect."
