Produced in the US, this is usually referring to brandy distilled from grape-based wine. If the producer uses other fruit, it must be stated on the label. If aged under two years in oak, it must state the word "immature" on the label. Beyond that, labels such as VS, VSOP, and XO mean little as the brands themselves dictate what that means to them.

Tasting Notes

"Cedar Ridge Brandy invites comparison to Cognac, but must contend with the fact that it's still a young spirit. Bright and fragrant on the nose, it takes advantage of its youth to showcase the fruity notes of the spirit. On the palate it offers oak, vanilla, marzipan, and wine. Though it doesn't have the restraint one might find in an older brandy, it's quite enjoyable in its own right."
