Mezan Panama Rum 1999
Aged Rum
Mezan // Panama
U.K. independent rum bottler Mezan purchases stocks of Caribbean rum, then continues to age them in England.
No sugar or coloring is added, making each Mezan release a valuable resource for understanding what a distillery is capable of. In this case, it’s the Don Jose distillery in Panama, owned by Varela Hermanos, best known for their Ron Abuelo brand. Distilled in 1999, the Panama 1999 was bottled circa 2014, implying 15 years of aging, although there is no age statement given.

Tasting Notes
"The first few sips of the Panama 1999 give just a hint of wood--nowhere near as much as you might expect after spending a decade or more in a barrel. As it opens up in the glass, it transforms into something spectacular, honey and peaches dancing on the tongue. The body is light with no added sugar, letting you sip this rum repeatedly without getting sugar fatigue. The finish is relatively short and returns to just a hint of wood. Enjoy this rum neat -- you won’t be disappointed!"
