Bright green apple candy and hints of root beer stand out from the classic herbal and pepper notes of a high rye mash bill. But it’s nicely balanced by a strong vanilla sweetness and very nice roasty barrel notes on the finish. It is thin on the palate, would likely benefit significantly being bottled at a higher proof. But the flavors are lovely and complex.
First time with Michter's. Doing a head to head with the small batch bourbon. Let's start with the Rye. Nose reminds me of fresh baked bran muffins to be honest. First sip starts somewhat mild before the typical Rye pepper kicks in. The finish brings much more to the table than the start. Strong hints of banana bread and warm caramel. Not the best Rye at this price point, but a nice pour. Side by side with the bourbon I prefer the latter.
Full feel up front. You can feel the cherry fruit trying to come out. Carmel bourbon flavor has a medium length finish that ends in the cherry flavor. Nice pour for sure. Thanks Tang!
