Mortlach 15 Year (Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms)

On sale for under 100....why not? Nose - Straight up sherry bomb. There's some meat and peat elements WAYYYYYYYY back there or there's just too much sherry? I get a lot of red fruits from a second use oloroso or perhaps some PX. The meaty peaty malt is giving me elements but not coming out here strong. I get the smoke off a pig roast with some glaze, but it's still a touch out of line with exceptional. Taste - I get why these are so expensive at retail. It really is a flavor bomb with elements from all over coming out. It's sherry and oak and peat, and then this totally weird funk where I think the wood and oak you're storing this in are going bad. That said, it's darn complex and tasty.... Ok so the nose isn't doing well for me. The taste of really well done, really complex, but doesn't hit on notes geeks love. Still I love what they did on the neck and I'm told drink that neck. SO cheers.

Neat. Neck pour. My favorite store bought cases of this stuff. I think the final season of Game of Thrones caused so much trauma that anything branded Game of Thrones can’t sell. Original MSRP was $150, I got this for $80. Not bad at all. 15 year finished in ex-bourbon casks. It’s a beautifully crisp single malt wrapped around a salted sea breeze and vanilla and caramel sweetness. Hint of pepper and citrus. It’s just refreshing. There isn’t this stand out quality but it’s relaxing to sit back and sniff. Wow, thick and oily mouth feel. That caught me off guard. Only 92 proof. That is a perfect texture for me. Oh this is so solid. Salty and sweet on the tongue, sweetness coming as a light caramel. The malt takes over mid palate but transitions into a beautiful combo of vanilla and light chocolate. Citrus notes open up on the finish and linger as the final impression. There is a nice oak presence building on the finish. Ah I love this. It’s a refreshing and crisp single malt wrapped around these delicious dessert flavors. Gosh, this is a steal at $80. I may buy another.

Sweet, briny, and oily on the palette. Complex flavor profile. Finish is slightly bitter. Overall, very good... interesting.

Beautiful gold in color, with a sweet sherry edge on the nose. Nice depth on the palate - vanilla spice, almond notes, oak wood and a hint of smoke. A well rounded Speyside whiskey, and a proper lord of the Six Kingdoms. (AT)
