Mahia, the national spirit of Morocco, is a fig brandy with a small dose of anise seed. Nahmias et Fils is the only source for locally-produced Mahia in the U.S. It’s inspired by a 1900 heirloom Nahmias family recipe. Master Distiller David Nahmias handcrafts small batches of Mahia in New York. It takes about at 5 pounds of carefully selected, California figs to produce each 750 ml bottle of Mahia.
Other BrandyBrandy distilled from any type of fruit-based wine produced anywhere in the world. Not referring to any of the designated or protected areas such as Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados, etc.
"This unaged spirit is aromatically unique and familiar at the same time. Just the slightest hint of anise you might miss if you aren't looking for it. Aromas of broken pine branches, corn fields, apricot and cherry pits dominate. Medium bodied, velvety texture and quite sweet to start, but a welcome heat soon arrives to balance the sweetness. True to the nose with unripe peach and apricot stone flavors joining in. Drink as a digestif as they did traditionally or try in cocktails incorporating honey."
