Nose: sweet molasses initially, transitions to an interesting combo of umami, sea breeze and wet seaweed. There’s also a hint of smoke.
Palate: relatively thin mouthfeel given the alcohol content. Not very oily. Smoke and a hint of ethanol burn up front. Only a little dark red fruit sweetness. A bit of woody oak transitions to brine at the end which segues to the finish
Finish: Smokey, brine character becomes almost overtly salty. Long finish that transitions back to some oaky notes.
This is an extremely complex whisky. The first few sips I get walnut with a smoky and briny finish. The next few sips opened up with a stone fruit sweetness before tobacco kicks in. Definitely grab this one anytime you see it.
Very solid Japanese whisky. Drinkable dram with strong notes of honey; vanilla, caramel, and orange notes; and some light, but present, smoke along for the ride. Worth grabbing if you can find it for a good price!
