Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or Sauternes Cask Finish

Reviewed May 20, 2022Nose: warm honey, orange peel twist, lemon zest, vanilla icing, molasses ginger snap cookie, oak around the edges Palate: moderately oily - almost silky, warm honey, oak most notable here Finish: vanilla shortbread topped with honey drizzle. Ginger bites. More oak than on the nose, buttery brown sugar, salted caramel. Light citrus is faintly in the background -
Nose: apple pie with extra cinnamon, damp seaweed, light earthy peat moss, the early smoke of extra dry firewood, a hint of citrus Palate: thin oil, lighter mouthfeel, sweet apple, cinnamon, campfire smoke Finish: pepper, cinnamon, a touch of brine, lightly medicinal, smooth and creamy smoke lingers with hints of apple and ash
-
Nose: campfire, smoked damp moss, fresh cedar, dried hay, damp seaweed and salty sea breeze, aged leather book binding, freshly ground cinnamon, Palate: moderately oily, touch of salted caramel, cinnamon, a little heat from the ethanol Finish: caramel rinsed in saline, tobacco, ash and smoke from charred meat, progresses to toasted marshmallows, touch of black pepper, cinnamon gives way to light cherry. Sweetness lingers at least as long as the smoke. An excellent, deep and nuanced dram. Lands more on the side of smoke than outright peat.

Elijah Craig Kentucky Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 16, 2021 (edited December 2, 2021)Nose: fresh rye bread with earthy, sour and spicy backdrop. Palate: a little tart, dark red cherry, the earthy and peppery rye comes a little late, maybe a hint of oak, moderate ethanol burn, just oily enough to coat the tongue. Finish: some butterscotch, syrupy coke, with a late touch of candied red cherry Overall there’s not a lot going on and it’s a bit of a stretch to pull out specific tasting notes
