O'Begley Dubh Reserve
O'Begley Distillery // New York, USA
O'Begley has been making Irish-style whiskeys in Pittsford, New York since 2011. They use a mash bill of 75% unmalted barley, 15% malted barley, and 10% oats for this whiskey. "Dubh," or black, is the name of this expression and it is aged in new, charred oak barrels and bottled at cask strength.
Other WhiskeyA spirit distilled from a mash of grain(s) at less than 95% ABV, bottled at no less than 40% ABV. The product must have characteristics, taste, and aroma generally attributed to whiskey
Cask Typenew, charred American oak
"The aptness of the name "Dubh Reserve" is evident on sight, as it pours with a very dark hue. Its aroma brings to mind dark chocolate and Assam tea. It's quite hot on the palate, with a bittersweet-molasses taste that competes with its malty grain base. The charred oak contributes an appealing smokiness. "
