A darkening, dusky nose of rich wood and malted barley, lightened somewhat by the wheat. The flavor is cohesive, with a slight bitter tang that reminds us of a sour mash. Some burnt bread and peppery rye also are on display. A heavy mouthfeel with a very long finish. This one needs some water to open up and allow the flavors to breathe. An unusual experiment that needs a little tweaking.
Tasting this head-to-head against the Double Wheat. You'd better be in the mood for a strong oak(?) profile. If so, you'll love this. Otherwise, I have nothing bad to say about this, other than go for Double Wheat if you have to choose between the two.
