Nose: Sweet, and loaded with effervescent fruits - pear, raspberry, blueberry, lightly floral. Really bright on the nose for something that is supposedly this old.
Taste: Thin mouth feel but no heat. Apples, candied fruit and nuts. Bright and spirit-y. Faint pipe tobacco, little caramel. Not wildly complex.
Finish: Long, lots of molasses, brown sugar, toffee and sweet cream. Almost a root beer note. Really interesting how this transforms.
Overall: This is sorta bizarre - and if it weren’t for the finish it would be easy to write off. Still, though, the nose and palate are light, not particularly complex and interesting then the finish swoops in to add a bit more. That said, I can’t think of why I would reach for this over so many other things that are currently available.
