Pike Creek Canadian Whisky Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Pike Creek // Canada
Purchase this whisky in its homeland and you’ll get a product with a 10 year age statement. The version available in the U.S. however, is aged for an average of 7 to 8 years and finished in used port barrels. This whisky was initially produced in the 1990s, then discontinued. With the growing interest in small-batch, craft Canadian whisky, it was recently reprised.
CanadianDISTILLED IN CANADA AND AGED IN BARRELS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS; OFTEN (BUT NOT ALWAYS) CANADIAN WHISKIES ARE BLENDS OF CORN, BARLEY, AND RYE WHISKIES WHICH WERE DISTILLED AND MATURED SEPARATELY. TRADITIONALLY, CANADIAN WHISKEY IS CALLED “RYE”, ALTHOUGH NO MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF RYE-GRAIN WHISKY IS REQUIRED IN A BLEND.

"The port wood influence is strong and pleasant on the nose, suggesting raisins and ripe red fruits. Though lightweight on the palate, it is not light on flavors as blood orange, ginger, and mild baking spices make their presence known. Due to the modest ABV, this whisky has just enough heat to let the port flavors and wood tannins merge to a balanced finish. "
