Reilly's Rock & Rye Ginger Whiskey
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs
Reilly's // USA
Ginger was considered a powerful curative in the early 1900s, and was commonly found mixed with rye whiskey and sweetened with rock candy for a concoction found at many bars called "Rock and Rye." Post Prohibition it was relegated to a dusty jar kept behind the bar for old timers, but has recently found a resurgence.
Reilly's selected the rye whiskey (mash bill 51% rye, 45% corn, 4% malted barley) with Master Blender Dave Pickerell and infused it with ginger and spices for this updated interpretation. .

Herbal/Spice LiqueursHerbal and/or spiced liqueurs make up a bulk of the liqueur family. Oftentimes the recipe or formula is top secret and decades if not centuries old and were created for “medicinal purposes.” Any type of liquor can form the base. Sugar is added prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes
"The sharp spiciness of the ginger mingles with the inherent baking spice notes of the rye with a hint of cardamom. While it does run on the sweet side, a tart fruit element keeps it from hitting the cloying mark. Ideal added to a little chilled seltzer or club soda with a squeeze of lime. "
