Released in April 2019, Ron Barceló Gran Añejo Dark Series is made much like the brand's Gran Añejo using estate-grown sugarcane and rums which are aged for up to six years in ex-bourbon barrels.
The difference here is that heavily-charred barrels are used rather than medium light char barrels.

"With the extra charred barrels, the aroma is really S'mores-like especially graham crackers and roasted marshmallows. The rum is full and sweet on the palate and there's a slight bittersweet finish. Whatever nuance the rum might have is covered up with the sweet flavors. If you've got a sweet tooth, consider this for a nightcap. Otherwise, probably best to add to a punch with lots of citrus or other fruit juice to cut the sweetness."
