Let it breathe for a while, even an hour or more and you would swear this is bourbon. Oaky, vanilla, sweet and it makes incredible rum Manhattans: 2oz rum, 10mL (1/3 oz simple syrup), 1 dash orange bitters, 2 dashes Angostura, express a large orange peel into the empty glass, stir with ice and strain.
It's awesome rum. I would say that Diplomatico Mantuano is a little bit more delicate and soft but Reserva Exclusiva is far more richer in taste. El Dorado 12 and this one are both the best for me for now.
Nose is bread pudding with warm caramel topping and powdered sugar. I also get a hint of over ripe banana. Inhaling deeply brings butterscotch. Very sweet on the palate, burnt sugar, vanilla, and bananas foster. The finish brings pepper toward the rear of the tongue. Dark karo syrup lingers lightly. Surprising heat in the chest. Very nice.
