Booker's Bourbon Batch 2025-04 "Phantom Pipes"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 30, 2026 (edited March 31, 2026)Nice long legs. Nose leads with hay and apple. Palate is quite spicy, hot pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, and allspice. Peanuts are present at the end as well, thank you Jim Beam. I've been missing this. There's also just a hint of sweetness. This seems younger than 7 yrs. The finish, although peanuty, is bitter. Adding ice improved the whiskey overall. The hay came forward up front and the bitterness on the finish faded. An upgrade over recent Bookers I've had but still well behind what Beam offered in the last decade.990.0 USD per Bottle -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Fusion Series #1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 20, 2026 (edited March 7, 2026)Virtually no legs in the glass. Nose is light, but I do get hints of sweetness, allspice, mint, and rye bread. Palate brings white pepper and mild fruit along with the nose profile. Finish is light, slightly doughy. This is a mlld bourbon, even for the 98+ proof point. Unspectacular into itself, but considering 60% of this whiskey is 2yrs old, it doesn't present as young. I'm not a Barton's fan, but the 11 yr might be balancing out the two yr old whiskey? A middling whiskey, but considering what's in the bottle, a promising start. -
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon (2024 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 28, 2026 (edited January 29, 2026)The nose on this is both herbal and meaty, hay and anise in the background. Palate brings licorice and white pepper. Finish is more of the same and actually lingers in the back of the throat. A splash of water or on ice let's the rye be even more pronounced. With the higher rye content, this is head and shoulders ahead of the standard Heaven Hill rye offerings, but for less or even money, MGP, New Riff, Old Forester, and Bardstown products outshine this. A step in the right direction. -
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Discovery Series #13
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2025 (edited March 7, 2026)Nose reads very sweet, like cotton candy. There is also a light baking spice in the background. Wow, palate stays sweet, but I am brought back to Red Hot cinnamon candies. Just a hint of oakiness, which I had anticipated would be a lot more present given the second barreling. I am also picking up a hint of chocolate, which gets stronger towards the finish. Finish also presents some licorice and peanut. Nice heat, as well. Makes the finish hang on and on. A very nice pour. -
Maker's Mark The Lost Recipe Series Edition 2
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed October 18, 2025 (edited October 19, 2025)Nose presents the typical fruity MM profile, but more sour fruit punch than green apple I usually get. Also, getting chocolate. Not sweet. The palate is dark chocolate and a touch of cherry. Overall, dry. Fairly hot. Finish is a continuation of the chocolate, staying dry and astringent. I like this, but it's a bit one note. Would make a nice chocolate mint julep. -
2025 Cosentino's, Warehouse 1, Floor 1, 130pr. Thick legs. Nose has sour cherries and milk chocolate, reminiscent of a cherry cordial, also a touch of pie dough. Palate is hot and follows the nose closely with sweet cherries and bittersweet chocolate. Finish hugs the chest and fades slowly. Ice mellows the palate some. I've had a number of OFSB bottles. This follows the flavor profiles but not among my favorites.

This one is from Westport Whiskey and Wine in KY. Been sitting on it for a couple years. Nice legs. Sweet caramel, apricot, and pie spice, fairly simple. Palate brings more to the table with the eye coming forward. I get allspice, anise, hints of chocolate, grape, and mint. Turns peppery at the end before fading.

A swirl shows nice legs in the glass. The nose presents Tennessee mineral but also nutmeg , prunes, and tobacco. Palate presents sweet and spicy with a touch of artificusl grape. I suspect this has a lot of Tennessee whiskey in it, which I'm not usually a fan of, but this is blenede nicely and has nice pit fruit and fall spice depth. The finish is nice offering sweet chocolate and pepper. It is slightly astringent, however. A large ice cube, added nicely, rounding off some of the harsher notes and bringing sweetness, chocolate, and a touchnof pit fruit forward. Like the finish lengthened, and the pepper tempered. The astringency is gone. Overall, a very nice whiskey.

No legs. Nose offers barn hay, apple pie, cardamom, and cream of tartar, very mild. Palate brings a sweeter, spicier pie profile. This is not too complex, but very nice. Finish actually presents a little cocoa, but not bitter. Not a stellar whiskey, but very pleasant. I could drink this casually on the rocks, or as a good mixer.
