Full of robust, warm and smooth sweetness. Lots of flavor that I enjoy.

Nose - butterscotch, vanilla, thyme, cinnamon, allspice, root beer, ginger snap, molasses, anise, overripe banana, grape, low ethanol burn. Taste - butterscotch, caramel, root beer, thyme, cinnamon, syrupy molasses, anise, grape, mint, vanilla, low alcohol bite, finishing moderately long with lingering minty molasses and root beer flavors. This is the first rum I’ve reviewed. It’s extremely sweet, which I’m not very accustomed to in a spirit. However, the depth of flavor is enticing and altogether tasty. After this experience, I’m definitely interested in trying more of them.

DRE was my very first sipping rum and it was a great place to start. Sweet and approachable, smooth going down, with just enough tingly burn to remind you it’s a rum and not some syrupy liqueur. The nose is a bit modest, but the taste is a nice caramel butterscotch with some dark fruit and honey. Flavors fall a bit flat compared to other rums I’ve tried since, but I’m thinking I’ll keep a bottle of this around for guests and as an effortless and economical sipper.
