Jamaica’s Worthy Park is the newest Jamaican distillery, with a modern facility built circa 2005. In addition to exporting bulk rums, they also offer the Rum-Bar branded rums in the Jamaican market. The distillery is a 100% pot-still operation, and their source molasses comes from their own sugar mill less than a mile away. The Rum-Bar Gold is aged at least four years in ex-bourbon barrels. This product is currently exported to markets outside of Jamaica (to Europe and Asia), and has plans to be available in the States in 2017.
Gold RumRum that is often aged, but can also just have caramel-coloring added to provide color. No specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for aging for most countries with a few exceptions.
"The Gold presents a medium straw color in the glass. The nose is surprisingly subtle for a pot-still Jamaican rum. In time, it yields vanilla and stone fruits, like a fruit pastry. Taste-wise, the vanilla and barrel-wood spring forth, with little of the ripe banana hogo found in some Jamaican rums. The mouthfeel is very clean, with no hint of additives. It finishes dry, with the barest hint of honey. It will work well as a rum substitute in cocktail recipes calling for a similar 80-proof bourbon."
