Seagram's Extra Dry Gin
Seagram's // USA
Launched in 1939, this American-made gin is sold in its famous "bumpy" bottle (and is actually referred to as "Bumpy" in many a liquor store to this day). It is actually aged slightly (several weeks) in ex-whiskey white oak barrels and has just the faintest hint of yellow color. The gin is distilled with a 100% neutral grain base with the botanicals pretty par for the course: juniper, orange peel, coriander, cardamom, angelica root, cassia bark.
Distilled GinThis style of gin takes a neutral spirit and then adds juniper berries and other natural flavorings before it is re-distilled. After distillation, additional flavors (artificial or natural) and sweeteners may be added.
"The juniper leaps out of the glass with some candied orange but it also shows an earthy and spiced profile. The gin is a bit lean on the palate with a bit of a burn as you taste. The juniper and the earthy root flavors continue and the gin has a hint of sweetness. Pepper and bitter flavors finish the gin. Thoughts on mixing are very straightforward leaning towards just soda or in a Collins."
