t1 Tequila Reposado Excepcional
Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
t1 is produced by Master Distiller Germán González, formerly of his family's Chinaco, of 100% Highlands blue agaves--especially mature in some cases. After slow autoclaving and double-distilling--and in the case of the reposado, spending six months in "very old" Scotch barrels, it is bottled in a distinctive, Aladdin-shaped bottle.
Tequila ReposadoDistilled from 100% blue Weber agave, it is aged from 2 months up to a year in barrels no larger than 20,000 L. Any type of wood is acceptable, although ex-bourbon barrels are most common. Reposado translates to "rested".
"The color is a pale straw befitting the used oak, and the nose presents brown, creamy spice (cinnamon and ginger but no pepper) plus some stewed agave. All of the above are present on the palate, along with a nuttiness (think pine nuts) and a little more cream--all doing a Fred and Ginger dance on the palate. A flash of pepper appears on the medium finish, wrapping up a tipple that is at once suave and street-smart. Try in a tall glass with ice and Topo Chico."
