Tequila Ocho Extra Añejo "San Agustin" 2009
Tequila Extra Añejo
Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Tequila Ocho selects agaves from particular ranchos to put a focus on the terroir of the agave. This particular tequila comes from the San Agustin rancho near the town of Jesús María which was leased to the Camarena family for the purpose of growing agave. The extra añejo is aged for 3 years in ex-American bourbon casks and is bottled at 80 proof. Note a single barrel extra añejo exists from this vintage and rancho at a higher proof and limited availability.
Tequila Extra AñejoDistilled from 100% blue Weber agave, it is aged for at least 3 years in barrels not to exceed 600 liters. Any type of wood is acceptable, although ex-bourbon barrels are most common. Extra Añejo tequilas are also known as "ultra aged".
"Pale golden in color, the aroma is spicy yet sweet. Notes of spice-poached pears, and a touch of Tellicherry black pepper are found. San Agustin is starting to develop this perfume-like acidity in the palate that bounces back and forth between sweet and dry. The highly floral ending has a kiss of cacao and coffee."
