Balvenie Portwood 21 Year

Very, very smooth

Tasted at a bar. Nose- honey and pears. Taste- Really easy to sip, some under ripe red apples and more pears, the honey sweetness comes through, a bit of barrel wood but not what I'd expect for the age. It was coming off a bit muted but very well rounded. I'd hand this to someone who equates "smooth" with quality in a heart beat but for my taste it was a bit down the middle. Finish was more.sweet fruits, gentle green grass.

Nose is incredible. My wife can't stand the smell of Scotch, but loved the smell of this one. Taste is very smooth with notes of dried fruit, almonds and honey. The aftertaste is long where a bit of peat does sneak in. This is a very complex dram and I recommend adding a little water to open up the floral notes. Can't wait to try it with a cigar as the aftertaste would lend itself well for that.

Some heat in the nose but very smooth and enjoyable. Short finish. A little sweet but an excellent dram from Balvenie
