Town Branch Single Malt

Malt and cereal. If I tasted this blind I would actually think it was a Speyside. Very impressed by this offering. It doesn't have as many floral notes as Balcones Lineage or Stranahan's Blue Peak but I keep coming back to this one more than them. Subsequent sips have brought out molasses and milk chocolate. Would definitely recommend if you can find it and I appreciate the age statement. Updated rating from 3.75 to 4.25: This expression keeps getting better with each bottle I get. I now get tropical notes, like a ripe mango along with all the other tasting notes. I've taken it to multiple functions and converted people that say they don't like whiskey to wanting to get a bottle. It's simply a great whiskey. Cheers!

Tastes like vodka with a slight hint of scotch flavor. Makes me think I'm coming down with a case of COVID. Doesn't taste bad, it just hardly tastes like anything. I suspect Balcones has given me unrealistic expectations for American single malts. Update: a week later, it's unclear if this has gotten a little better or if I'm better, but this has got a little more going on than I gave it credit for. One could perhaps see some similarities to a young Speyside. Bumping up a half point. Still not great, despite a longer age statement than comparable American single malts.

Great first taste but bitter after taste, great on the rocks

Sweet and oily. Didn’t expect something this smooth for the price. This is a good one to share.

Nose: smells a lot like moonshine. Slight hint of aging. Taste: very smooth. despite the nose of moonshine, it has none of the moonshine burn. There is some overall flavor like an un-aged whiskey, but not a corn moonshine. Multiple sips brings out the malt.
