Uncle Nearest Straight Rye

Part of our Tennessee whiskey tour was the amazing Uncle Nearest Distillery. There, the guided tasting had this Rye expression that really called my attention. On the nose, i get lemongrass, fresh gooseberies, brown sugar, grapefruit. Mostly fruity. The palate is all about red fruits, cherries, a bit grainy though. Aftertaste had a chocolate profile, with cherries, ginger, and dry grain. Overall this one was very flavorful and interesting. I get some complexity out of it that is not usual in most Tennessee whiskies. My score for it is 89 over 100.

The nose is a rye with some sweetness to it; some fruity & light floral notes The palate has a distinctive “rye” vibe, and these other notes, coupled with rye grasses, gives it a variable “funkiness” as the taste lingers on. The finish gives me a somewhat delayed aftertaste that, once again to me & my palate, resurrected this hard yo describe “funkiness”, and left me with an aftertaste I did NOT like or ebjoy…I felt compelled to eviscerate it with a much better rye whiskey or a quality bourbon to re-calibrate my tastebuds and mouthfeel to “normality! Definitely NOT on my “Good List” ; I won’t buy it again!

Easy drinking rye. Predominantly rich dried fruit and vanilla with a pleasing mild spiciness. Definitely a rye, but you can easily substitute this is bourbon cocktails.

On the nose there is a strong presence of vanilla with subtle undertones of fruit. On the palate, there is also vanilla and apple as the predominant flavors. When adding a drop of water, the flavors shift and push carmel to the forefront with a long finish.
