Wanderback American Single Malt Batch No. 1
American Single Malt
Wanderback // Washington (aged in Oregon), USA
Wanderback is a hybrid independent bottler/distillery. The brand collaborates with distillers directly prior to distillation rather than post-distillation to achieve their desired result. For Batch No. 1, Seattle's Westland Distillery double pot distilled a mix of four types of malted barley: Washington Select Pale Malt, Pale Chocolate Malt, Munich Malt, and Crystal Malt. It aged in Oregon for two years in 53 gallon, high toast, low char new American oak barrels. Bottled at 90 proof.
American Single MaltMade in the USA from 100% malted barley. Distilled at one distillery. Matured in oak casks no larger than 700L. Distilled to no higher than 160 proof (80% ABV). Bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) or higher. (This is the proposed Standard of Identity by the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission.)
Cask Typehigh toast, low char new American oak
"Wanderback's first batch of single malt whiskey is appealingly biscuity on the nose and light on the palate. The toasted, not charred, American oak keeps this recognizably a malt whiskey, with gentle vanilla notes, a pleasant woodiness, and touches of nutmeg and leather on the finish. "
