Dark RumAKA Black Rum. Usually aged (but not always) and has additional caramel-coloring added to provide the dark/black color. Some are distilled from blackstrap molasses. No specific type or size barrel required for aging nor is there a set time required for aging in most countries with a few exceptions.

"Aromas of dark brown sugar, sawdust, and white peaches are most notable as you inhale from the glass. A sweetness stays with you throughout the tasting and ends just pleasantly bitter to change things up. The body of the rum is not too chewy and while you would do fine to sip this neat, an even better idea would be to use this as one of the rums in your cocktail as it has just enough depth to stand out in a drink without overpowering other flavors."
