Westland Peat Week Single Cask Release #283
American Single Malt
Westland Whiskey // Washington, USA
Released in July 2014, this is one of two single cask bottlings released to celebrate Westland's first Peat Week event. This is aged for two years in first fill ex-bourbon casks and uses 100% Scottish Highland peated barley. What sets Westland Distillery apart from others American single malt bottlings is their apparent desire to be inspired by Scotch whisky while creating something uniquely their own.
American Single MaltMade in the USA from 100% malted barley. Distilled at one distillery. Matured in oak casks no larger than 700L. Distilled to no higher than 160 proof (80% ABV). "With warehouses a short distance from the Puget Sound, it is no surprise to find a gentle sea breeze in this whisky. This is 122 proof so without water there is only a moderate peat aroma, and the whisky has a nice balance of fruits and malt. If you want to compare it to a Scotch whisky, perhaps you'd best think of a peated Highland whisky. With a small dose of water, however, the peat aroma intensifies and becomes a bit grassier. "
