WhistlePig RoadStock Rye
Rye
WhistlePig // Vermont, USA
RoadStock Rye is a road trip-aged whiskey. A portion of the whiskey was transferred into Jordan Winery Bordeaux blend casks—78% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec—and finished during a 6,000 mile trip on a "RoadStock Rolling Rickhouse" to and from Paso Robles, CA.
Meanwhile, on the CA side, the remainder of the whiskey was put into Firestone Walker Brewery Imperial Stout, Imperial Blonde Ale and Experimental Ale barrels before heading back to Vermont on a RoadStock Dodge Hellcat (fueled by a custom fuel blend made at VP Racing Fuels). The resulting rye whiskey is bottled at 86 proof and available as of July, 2021.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The nose on this whiskey has a somewhat sweaty quality to it, with notes of green pepper, burnt jam, and spice, but also musty gym socks. Thankfully, the palate on this whiskey is much better than the nose, with notes of dusty wine barrels, grape jelly, pinecone, cinnamon sticks, clove, nutmeg, black pepper, earthy green tea, beer hops and green bell peppers. The whiskey does have a faint note of smoky tar that carries into the fruity and rather hot finish. "
