Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Rye

Nose - significant rye spice and baking spices, caramel and vanilla underneath, some citrus zest, rich overall and doesn’t smell too hot Palette - thick, sharp and hot rye spice up front, some herbal notes and cinnamon, burnt orange peel, a bit of brown sugar Finish - hot and lingering herbal spice, decent burn going down but very pleasant

"I have had several pours from my bottle before posting this review. The nose is surprisingly muted but opens with a few drops of water. The aromas include lemon zest, bitter herbs and mint. It reminds me of a toned down lemon Pledge furniture polish smell; which a bit off putting. Fortunately it does not taste like lemon Pledge; I can only imagine furniture polish would not taste good but I have no personal experience :-) The taste is classic rye with a bit if sourness and cinnamon bite on the finish. The high alcohol content is most noticeable on the finish. The furniture polish smell should have doomed my review but I do like this whiskey as a whole. A good example of the the sum of the parts ultimately resulting in a good whiskey. "

Lemon and mint up front, slight oak in the middle with a pepper finish.
