Xellent Swiss Edelweiss Gin
Xellent // Switzerland
Xellent Edelweiss Gin is a Swiss made gin featuring 25 different herbs, berries, and flowers with the majority of the ingredients coming from central Switzerland including the rye. Two varieties are used--Picasso and Matador--and is harvested in late summer. The rye comprises the base for the gin (which they bottle to produce a vodka). The disclosed botanicals include juniper, edelweiss, woodruff, elderflower, lemon balm, and lavender with the latter two grown by Master Distiller Franz Huber. Water used in the distillation is from the Titlis glacier in central Switzerland.
Modern GinAlso has been referred to as "Contemporary", "New Western", "New Wave", and "New American". This style is not legally defined. In general, this category of gin, while it does contain juniper, places less of an emphasis on this botanical. Other botanicals not classically used in London Dry gins are often utilized and often highlight botanicals grown in the region the gin is produced. Most produced as either London Dry or Distilled Gins.
"The floral aroma is a medley of scents with along with some lemon and a small amount of juniper piney notes as an accent. The gin is soft and delicate at first leading to a gentle spiced finish. With some floral notes still on your palate, cinnamon closes the show with just enough to leave a fresh taste on your palate. Gin applications lean towards the Silver Gin Fizz or a White Lady, but could also work in a 50-50 Martini."
