Yellow Rose Outlaw Bourbon

A balanced Bourbon from Houston, Texas that has an aromatic birth with notes of grains, wood, flowers, herbs & spices; while a rich life adds notes of caramel & vanilla; that led to a long death with a touch of oak & smoke. January 2017 / August 2022

Received a sample from a friend. Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium-dark amber. Nose: Sweet and nutty, almost like a pie. Palate: Oak tannins and more nutty notes. Minimal spice, but some salt. Finish: Short with little heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed, but the salty note intensifies. Overall: 5/10 - I really wanted to like this more, and the nose gave me hope. The palate is interesting, but not particularly complex, and the finish is disappointing. I can't imagine this would be any good with ice or in a cocktail.

richer than Yellow Rose Harris but reminder of balcones single malt

For the price this is a very good whiskey. Spice, pepper, smoke, and a sweet, nutty flavor are the strongest characteristics. Theres a bit of a scotchy leather scent in the background as well. It’s one of my favorites.
