Received a sample from a friend.
Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes.
Color: Medium-dark amber.
Nose: Sweet and nutty, almost like a pie.
Palate: Oak tannins and more nutty notes. Minimal spice, but some salt.
Finish: Short with little heat.
Splash: No new flavors are revealed, but the salty note intensifies.
Overall: 5/10 - I really wanted to like this more, and the nose gave me hope. The palate is interesting, but not particularly complex, and the finish is disappointing. I can't imagine this would be any good with ice or in a cocktail.
