Zuidam Millstone 12 Year Sherry Cask
Single Malt
Zuidam // Netherlands
Millstone comes from the Zuidam distillery, a Netherlands family-owned distillery that has been making liquors and genevers (the juniper flavored national drink of the Netherlands and Belgium) for more than 50 years. Zuidam uses copper pot-stills and a wide variety of casks to produce many different big flavored malts. This 12 year old is matured for 8 years in first-fill American oak.
It is then transferred into very old oloroso sherry casks, reconstructed from 500/600 liters to 250 liter barrels to finish its aging. It is bottled at 46% ABV. Note: Not available in the US.

Tasting Notes
"Thick and musty on the nose, the whisky evokes images of old dark furniture kept in the dark undisturbed for years gathering dust. Heavy red fruits glint in morning dew, hanging low on the trees and vines, ready to be picked. On the palate, we are greeted with a Christmas cake made of dark fruits, plums and cherries, lovingly soaked in sherry for days and served with hot treacle. Old dark chocolate appears on the tongue with a wood smoke and light spices. This turns to marmalade and thick red fruits hung to dry. The finish is long and heavy, full of spices and wood."
