Zuidam Rogge Genever
Genever
Zuidam // Netherlands
This genever is made from 100% rye (rogge): 50% malted rye, and 50% unmalted rye. This mashbill is triple-distilled in a copper pot-still and is then aged in 200-liter new, American oak at 45% ABV.
After aging, botanicals (juniper, licorice, and aniseed) are added to part of the aged rye and re-distilled. It is then married and rested with the remainder and brought down to bottling proof of 35%.

As the botanicals themselves aren't aged, this product cannot be labeled as a 5-year old product; a small technicality.

Tasting Notes
"The rye influence is very clear. Notes of menthol, rye bread and oranges. Quite sweet as well, with marshmallow at the forefront. The palate has a lovely spiciness to it, but also some great sweet and sour interplay. Plenty of toffee too. If you love rye whiskey, this is certainly worth looking out for."
