High West Double Rye

Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA

Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited March 16, 2020)
3.5
3.5 out of 5 stars
2018 batch. Dill and mint herbal notes on the nose. Sweet and spicy. Hoping to find some 2017 or older bottles with the original blend formula that includes some of the 16 year old Barton's rye. Plan to do a side by side comparison. For 2018 and newer bottles, HW replaced the Barton's with their own distillate.

@QuinnDEskimo Wow, $22 is a fantastic price. These bottles actually ring up as $35.99 but have stickers on them that read $135.99 which scares people off. if I try my 2017 bottle and love it, I might go clear out the rest of the bottles. All other stores around me only have 2018 or 2019 bottles in stock and I'm not inclined to shell out $30 to $35/bottle for those!

@thebobby1930 you mean the impending “zombie apocalypse” that’s apparently happening.

@thebobby1930 oh man. I used to get them at my normal store for $22.99 but they only have the 18+ bottles now. I tried it but it tastes very different than the older bottling. Try to find a local ad and show them that the price is incorrect.

@QuinnDEskimo Nice. I've got one near me that has about 6 2017 bottles mispriced at $135.99 (actually $35.99) and they're on the top shelf so nobody is touching them. Also the store is in an area with clients that aren't interested in High West offerings. I've gotten one bottle so far and will likely crack it during the impending cornavirus lockdown!

The older 17’ batches are really really good. I have a store that has a few that just sit on the shelf. I’m milking it until they run dry.
