Nose : grassy light sweet pine Taste :Fresh wood and grass hits pretty hard up front, then a tangy rye spice with a sweet dusty tobacco and bitter spicy finish. A little too wood/grass foward for my blood but has some interesting depth and notes. Edit: I picked up my glass to pour another and saw a few drops at the bottom. Of course I drink it and tasted a pretty strong chocolate note. So I see where people are getting that on this one.

1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2022 (edited November 18, 2022)Kirkland Barton single barrel reserve 120 proof (Ksb) vs 1792 Full Proof 125 proof. The first thing you notice is the ksb is a tiny bit darker. Nose: They both have a rich vanilla citrus nose. The ksb has a very tiny astringent smell. Taste: Both are pretty similar in flavor as well. Rich vanilla, pears, tangy, a little baking spice. I would say the 1792 is a touch smoother (even with the higher proof) and the ksb is a little hotter and tiny bit more bitter. These are both great bourbons and obviously from the same distiller. 1792 FP is overall better but also costs $10 to $20 more than the ksb. 1792 FP 4.3/5 and ksb 4.25/5. Close because of taste vs value. -

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 15, 2022Tried the 2021 master disiller Chris Fletcher pick of this one and it just gets better and better. Just a step below coy. Neck pour is a little hot but a few drinks in this becomes your best friend. Nose : rich chocolate, roasted nuts plums. Taste: deep dark rich chocolate, burnt roasted peanuts, really rich fruit bread. A little hot but worth it. Numb and rich chocolate finish. This is the russian imperial stout of whiskeys. If you can't find coy hill. Buy this puppy. So good! -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 14, 2022 (edited November 12, 2022)The nose is the best part about this one. Super vannila caramel little wood. A little light on the taste ethanol hits first then the vanilla oak comes in. A nice lasting vanilla light oak finish. This aint bad and I get why people like it. Just not my jam. I like the nose and I like the finish. Everything in between is just ok. Cheers all! -
Barrell Rye Single Barrel Cask Strength 13 Year
Rye — Canada, Canada
Reviewed October 3, 2022 (edited October 24, 2022)I did a side by side with this Barrell 13yr Sib cs (barrel #L950) Canadian rye and and a Barrell rye cs 4yr rye batch #003. Color : the 13 year is a few shades lighter. 13yr Nose : Rich almost winey what I expect with a canadian. Deep sweet rye spice. Batch 3 nose : light ethanol, still rich but not as much, rye with a little vegetable Batch 3 Taste: sharp wood sweet rye with a little heat. Bitter and sweet numb finish. 4.15/5 13 yr taste: this one swirls so nicely with good size legs. Rich multi layered, sweet earthy rye, dry wine, caramel and light apples. Sweet rye lingers with a medium numb finish 4.6/5 Conclusion: It's hard to compare these even though they are both Barrell. Definitely different styles of rye. Batch 3 has a lot of Indiana and maybe polish rye influence. I am a sucker for a high proof nicely aged Canadian so the 13yr wins. They are both great and would never turn down either. -
