Smokehead High Voltage
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed October 10, 2020 (edited March 25, 2021)The first sip feels like being sucker punched by an ash fume that temporarily took a corporeal form. Ashy, then creamy, then back to smokey. Very long finish - the cigarette-like nose and flavour sticks around long after the drink has gone down the gullet. As this is my first foray into peaty scotch, my rating might change in the future. For now, I would say it certainly makes an emphatic statement about what to expect from this category of whiskies.10.0 USD per Pour -
Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed October 3, 2020 (edited October 25, 2020)Nose: menthol and slight sourness at the forefront, but there is sweetness that comes after Taste: my reaction at first sip was, "This reminds me of Woodford Reserve!" Checking the product write up, it does state that it was aged in ameran oak barrels so that may be why. Spicy and herbal, but well balanced. Not getting much fruity notes. Finish is medium to medium long, and is where I get a gentle breeze of dried fruit. Quite pleasant.16.0 USD per Pour -
Nose: Banana bread. The natural kind of sweetness, not the artificial kind. Taste: Floral, and hints of caramel. Goes down very easy. Texture is a little watery. Very short finish. Simple and straight forward, whilst still offering a consistently good and familiar experience - proving that basic doesn't mean bad. Will happily drink this without any complaints.22.0 USD per Bottle

Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed September 24, 2020 (edited November 12, 2020)Nose: Syrupy. Taste: Sweet and Spiky. Very slight hints of floral, more salty than sweet, spicy with more alcohol burn than I prefer. Finish is short. Note from bottle last pour: after leaving just enough for one dram in the bottle for months, the last pour is sweeter, thicker, and mellower than I remembered. Almost like a honey whiskey liquer.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Glenfiddich 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 23, 2020 (edited November 13, 2020)Nose: Phenomenal! Mix of raisins and dried plums. Could easily spend half an hour just nosing this whisky. Palate: Sweet and fruity with just a hint of tartness. Lively and delightful. Finish: Relatively short. Dry like red wine. This was my first single malt, and from the first whiff, its wonderful scent seemed to dispell the stresses of the day away. The taste may not be as complex as others, but its delicious fragrance has secured its place in my fond memories.10.0 USD per Pour -
Dewar's 12 Year The Ancestor (Discontinued)
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed September 22, 2020 (edited June 19, 2021)Nose: caramel and hint of smoke Palate: echoes the nose, hints of sweetneas and smoke, in that order, and which disappears quickly amidst the grain alcohol burn. Finish: short and slightly bitter. My first taste of this on its own was not pleasant. It was only when I did an A-B comparison with Teeling Small Batch that I could pick out the smoke and molasses-like sweetness. Not a stand-alone sipping dram for me, but tastes good as a mixer. If this is Dewar's answer to the JW Black, which in my area costs about 3-5 usd less, then I would say that the JW Black KOs the Dewar's 12 by round 2.20.0 USD per Bottle
