Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 9, 2016 (edited February 22, 2018)My favorite cheap, jack of all trades tequila. More flavor and robustness than almost anything at this price range. Beautifully rich, salty and briny, nice hints of smoke on the nose and midpallate, long clean and wet finish. You reall get a lot of flavor for a reposado. There's still a fair amount of alcohol burn but that's the only drawback, but It's almost impossible to beat for the price. And because it's so cheap and flavorful, it's great not just sipping but in margaritas, adding a depth of flavor that you wouldn't normally get from other similarly priced margarita-class tequilas. -
Corralejo Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed June 9, 2016 (edited November 25, 2016)Way too high of a rating for this. Tastes like a headache, has too much bitterness and I disagree with the other posters that it's smooth. Quite a fair amount of alcohol burn is still there. It's nicely grassy and fresh, but the mouthfeel is kind of flat. The nose matches this, soft and bright, but flat again. The killer is that it's got a sort of "dirty" taste, not smoky or salty but more like earth, but in a bad way. It's good for the price, but I have both a bottle of this and Altos Reposado at home (same price range) and I prefer the Altos hands down, it's smoother, has a better mouthfeel and has a more round flavor, even though it's rated 8 points lower on here. -
Beautifully peaty nose with gorgeous complexity. Unfortunately the taste doesn't match up to the nose. While definitely tasty and satisfying, it's a bit harsh/young for this expression I think and It lacks complexity. Definitely more alcohol burn than I would prefer. Mouthfeel is nice and round, which I like, but it tends to be astringent on the tongue after a few sips. It's a little on the lighter side of my preference as well, while (like I said) the peat especially on the nose is good, I could do with a more full, rich flavor.

Good dram. The nose is basic and doesn't represent the taste well, in my opinion. Definitely taste the citrus, and toffee, and a hint of salted caramel. There is a distinct alcohol harshness as one would expect from a NAS scotch, but it works in this ones favor, and actually is better than most other young NAS scotches I've tried. Very very light peat, almost unnoticeable. I love salty notes so this was very likable for me. I toured the Oban distillery when I was in Scotland and I prefer this over the 14, which If I recall correctly had more of an alcohol burn and overall tasted a bit one dimensional. Better than the distillers edition as well, which because of it's sherry finish was smoother but also very flat. Most people prefer the 14 to the Little Bay, but I agree with the staff review that this is far better.
