Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 8
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 16, 2018 (edited March 1, 2018)Very solid choice. I actually had Voyage 11, which is not here on Distiller. Well worth a try. -
My initial taste hit my tongue much hotter than I had expected and thus took me a minute to get into this dram. After the initial hotness passed I picked up on vanilla, a healthy dash of pepper and some fruit (apples and a touch of orange) as the pepper wore off. This whiskey has the feel of a high quality bourbon - medium/heavy mouth feel and a long lingering aftertaste. However, the aftertaste is the part I didn't like. I heard it described by @TheNeonDram as either candy corn or plato. And yes, I can see both in the lingering aftertaste. More plato for me unfortunately. The good notes in the middle gave way far to quickly to the plato aftertaste and so even with this drink having the feel of a good bourbon, I really just wasn't wild about what I was left with. Not terrible, but not great. Especially for the price.

Deerhammer American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed January 19, 2018 (edited March 1, 2018)I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Sweet and smooth with a good long finish. I would have expected a much higher price for as good as it was. I would give it a 4.5 star rating if half stars were permitted. -
Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 11, 2018 (edited March 1, 2018)I would say 3.5 if I could do half stars. Good oily texture and lingering taste. Tasted a bit rubbery. I kept picturing those old rubber tracks from my track days. Overall - a quality scotch, just not the flavor that I typically go for. I did really enjoy the smell that you get on the nose. So I was a bit conflicted on this one.
