Barrell Craft Spirits Seagrass Grey Label (2023 release)
Rye — Canada
Reviewed January 16, 2024 (edited January 17, 2024)Incredibly complex nose. I get everything from apricot and citrus fruit to caramel and butterscotch and pure ethanol. Neat you feel the heat and the rye spice that turns to the fruith and lingers for a long time. A little water opens it up more. The nose turns richer and more fruity. The palate still has heat but the fruit comes through more, along with a salty/tannin finish that doesnt last as long as neat. Very complex. A journey. The overall heat keeps it from scoring higher but an incredible glass when in the mood. -
The alcohol and nuts come through on the nose. Neat the initial thing that pops out is a cinnamon spice, but it doesnt overpower. With a little ice the nuttiness comes through, finishing witb a spice and a tart dryness. Overall a great glass to sip on. The tart finish for my taste is what keeps it from going higher.

Has a rich/full and thick mohthfeel. Overall flavor leans toward a sweet creaminess, but switches to a more dry and tannic flavor to keep it from being overly sweet. The proof is managable but definitely there and ankther thing keeping it from being too sweet. It’s good and different enough to he worthwhile to give it a try. You can tell it’s still young though so would love to try and older age profile down the line.

Starlight Single Barrel Huber's Old Rickhouse Rye Finished in VDN Barrels
Rye — Indiana, USA
Reviewed June 3, 2023r/bourbon private barrel selection. This is definitely a unique whiskey unlike Inhave ever tried before. While you get some of that rye spice, and I like sweeter bourbon in general, I found this to ultimatelu be too sweet. Honey/orange overpower the palate and then a dry orange peel finish lingers, like you are sucking on an irange rind. It’s something I’m glad I got to try, but isnt something I’d buy again. -
Old Elk Straight Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Colorado, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2023 (edited May 11, 2023)Pleasant sipper neat. I didn’t pick up on a lot of flavor tones. It was pretty straightforward with a pretty short little burn at the end that quickly went away. With a little ice it turned sweet and buttery with a full, rich feel to it. I can see how people think of bitterscoth or honey and maple and then it leaves your mouth with that bit of numbness. Overall, I would say it doesn’t blow me away, but I definitely enjoy it and it has a stable place in my home bar.
