Maison Surrenne Distillerie Galtaud Borderies
Cognac — Borderies, France
Reviewed March 21, 2020 (edited March 7, 2021)Honey and orange peel are the dominant flavors here with a rounding out of prunes, oak, port wine and white chocolate. Delicious. Light-medium body with a medium finish. -
This is good stuff. The young age comes through slightly, but I really like MGP's wheated mashbill and this is no different. Of the MGP Wheated Bourbon products I've had, the ones that come in at a slightly higher proof and age are better, but this is no slouch. Despite being a wheater, there is a nice amount of spice throughout, with an overall pleasant smoothness and sweet warmth. It reminds me a bit of a buttery cookie or toasted macaroon.

Shenk's Homestead (2019 Release)
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 19, 2020 (edited December 23, 2021)Oh wow. Don't let the nose fool you. This smells very light and unimpressive but the taste is there to back up the value and reputation of this bottle. Flavor-wise, this is a marshmallow bomb, with a medicinal/herbal edge followed by a touch of spice and hard candy - the kind grandmothers keep in their purse wrapped in strawberry patterned foil. There's a soft cocoa-y oakiness in the finish. I heard French Oak was used in the 2019 release. Because of the low proof, this is not as good as and does not hold up against some of the big flavor bombs or even the exceptional bottles in the 107 to 116 proof range... but this might be the best sub-100 proof bottle I've ever had.80.0 USD per Bottle -
BSB Brown Sugar Bourbon (Discontinued)
Flavored Whiskey — USA
Reviewed March 13, 2020 (edited March 4, 2021)People who throw the term "pancake syrup" around to describe whiskey need to try this first. Hard to have even .5 oz straight. This literally smells, tastes and drinks like thin syrup. It really reminds me of bourbon-barrel-aged maple syrup I buy sometimes and is just as sweet. This might actually be a more cost-effective product to pour on my pancakes... but I think i'm better off just adding a little OGD114 to my maple syrup bottle and calling it a day.20.0 USD per Bottle -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2019-03 "Country Ham"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 11, 2020 (edited March 31, 2020)*Just revisited this after leaving it 2/3 full for a few months. Less peanut than last time. This is delicious. Smoother. Fuller. Light cinnamon notes, and I'm actually getting a brown sugar country ham glaze. A little smokey, a lot of umami for a whiskey. I understand where the name comes from! -
Sagamore Spirit 'Sagamore Reserve' Double Oak Rye (2017 Limited Edition Release)
Rye — (bottled in) Maryland, USA
Reviewed March 9, 2020 (edited October 7, 2021)Revisited last night. Not bad. Tastes young with a slight rye spice bite at the end. Not super spicy. Very smooth, with a decent marshmallow quality I associate with and want in "Double Oak" bottles. Medium mouthfeel and sweet with notes of vanilla and oak.10.0 USD per Pour -
I don't care for regular Maker's Mark or the MM Cask Strength, but I really like Maker's 46. Got a few bottles on sale recently for $24 a piece, and this is definitely my favorite daily drinker. Just a smooth, solid drinker with cocoa and jam notes. It's like the chocolate cake of bourbon: nothing mind blowing but who can complain about chocolate cake36.0 USD per Bottle

Smells young, but pleasant with hints of raspberry, honeysuckle, pomegranate and melon At the low proof of 87.2, the young age is evident but not unpleasant. Smooth with a soft mouthfeel that reminds me of chrysanthemum tea, sea foam, white grape juice, mead and a light rye spice. It finishes young. It certainly is not worth the asking price, but, at the end of the day, it was a gift and I appreciate the atypical flavor profile.70.0 USD per Bottle

Trail's End 8 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished With Oregon Oak
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Oregon), USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020Batch No. 2, revisited after sitting half empty for around a year. The bazooka Joe, anise qualities have lessened. In it's place, I get more of a light creme brulee. Maybe, again, it's because I had this after having a number of other tastings. But the flavors have definitely improved. My only complaint is the lightness of the flavor and shortness of the finish. No burn, even with my nose in the glass.36.0 USD per Bottle
