Redbreast 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed August 3, 2020 (edited May 10, 2021)There's no other way to describe this but delicious. If it weren't for the clear description on the label, and the overwhelming amount of full flavoredness, there would be no way to know that this was cask strength because there is practically no burn whatsoever. What I get from this is primarily honey with a burnt raisin quality followed by malt sugar and Dr Pepper. I get a lot of stone fruit -apricots and peaches- in this also, but all of it has a distinct cooked into a pie and caramelized quality - pie crust and gummy caramelization and everything. Honestly, this is unbelievably delicious with a smooth nectar like texture, like freshly squeezed peach juice95.0 USD per Bottle -
Something about this reminds me of a dark cherry liqueur of the highest quality... The darkest, dark cherry turned into the finest of dry spirits. It's one of the best liquors of any kind that I've ever tried. It drinks a bit more like rye whiskey than a rum, however, with almost no vanilla notes whatsoever. Other flavors include cocoa, Belgian sugar, and a lot of rye-like spice70.0 USD per Bottle

Yellowstone Hand Picked Collection Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 16, 2020 (edited November 13, 2020)SJ Bourbon Drinkers pick, barrel no. 1808619, bottled at 109 proof. Initially, I didn't like this when I tried it last night immediately after opening the bottle (rocks glass). Coming back to it today (Glencairn), I appreciated it much more. Peanut brittle is the most prevalent undercurrent throughout, but there is a nice burnt brown sugar and cocoa quality to this, with hints of creme brulee. Medium long finish with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Low burn, but pleasant heat where present. The more I sip this, the more I like it.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Dark and spicy, the bourbon cask influence is unmistakable. Up front, I find strong coffee notes with green peppercorn, anise, and nutmeg. Vanilla appears in the middle with a pastry cream finish. This is a sipper for any lover of American whiskey or of strong flavorful spirits. Amazing at any price105.0 USD per Bottle

Medium. Just medium everything. Body, oak, finish. Medium. The first notes are Sherry that finishes with vanilla and fresh sugar cane juice. A slight undercurrent of charred oak bitterness is just below the surface throughout. The bourbon influence comes more to the surface in the middle with hints of dark cherry and cola (dark cherry cola).35.0 USD per Bottle

I love this. Bottom line. Fantastic. Initially, dark fruit (prune) that quickly opens into caramel, butterscotch, and chocolate caramel. Once I realized what this reminded me of, all I could taste was Rolo candy. Slightly viscous and thoroughly pleasant. Sweet but dry and complex. You can taste how many things are in this. Whether you like it or not, there's no question of quality here.66.0 USD per Bottle

Pretty traditional Young single malt profile. Gentle. Almost too gentle. Smooth, drinkable pour with a touch of peat. Rose water shows up in the middle and finish, and there are hints of caramel, honey, and black tea. I feel like I want more from this, but I have no complaints about this whatsoever.

Aromas of caramel, tobacco, cardamom, anise and bubblegum. I'm not a big cigar guy, but this reminds me a bit of a nice cigar. Chocolate rye malt licorice flavor with burnt sugar and caramel on the back end. Medium burn with a pleasant lasting finish. Really really big flavor bomb. Overall, very nice.

Excellent sipper that reminds me of a brandy and rum finished bourbon more than of rum finished in bourbon barrels. Surprisingly dry and quite pleasant, my only complaint is that this tastes more like whiskey than rum. In some ways, I feel like I could find a similar taste profile in a bourbon for less that I might like just as much. It does finish like a rum though70.0 USD per Bottle

Barrell Whiskey Infinite Barrel Project (February 12, 2018)
Other Whiskey — (bottled in) Kentucky, Multiple Countries
Reviewed June 21, 2020 (edited March 31, 2021)Not sure how to review this. The first pour I had of this, I loved. The next day, I came back for a pour and I was concerned but still pleased. The same day I had a third pour, and now I hated it. I'm sure it had to do with the other things I was drinking at the same time. I often find that drinking different whiskeys back to back cause certain flavors to become more pronounce in a whiskey that might not normally emphasize such flavors. I remember distinctly liking this the first time I had it and thinking it was complex and somewhat scotch-like with notes of caramel. By the most recent time I had this, all I could taste was what I believe other people refer to as the dickel Flintstone vitamin flavor. There is definitely an artificial fruit vitamin flavor going on that was the only thing I could taste.60.0 USD per Bottle
