Maker's Mark Private Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 13, 2019 (edited June 28, 2019)Neat. Party Source pick. Nose blows me away on this one. Deep cinnamon and vanilla. Floral qualities. Stirs images of fresh bread out of the oven at a bakery. I could bury my nose in this all day. Thick, syrupy and oily texture. Brown sugar all over the top of the tongue, gives way to that spice and cinnamon on the tongue. Tons of spice and vanilla on the close with decent legs. Such a good wheater. Rivals Antique all day long. -
Neat. Nose is fabulous. Tons of vanilla and stewed fruit. Bright fruit like apples and apricots. Some toasted marshmallow hiding Behind these high notes. Really delightful. Texture is light and a bit watery. Taste is delicious and matches the nose. Legs last a surprising amount of time. Damn it! Why couldn’t this be a higher proof. At 110, I bet this would rival Willet (MGP as well I know.) It’s really good but it could be unbelievably great with some more weight behind it.

Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 12, 2019 (edited June 16, 2019)Neat. A restaurant pour made such a good impression, I bought my own bottle for a proper tasting. On the nose, the corn hits you strong. It’s a candied corn, like a caramel corn. Lot a more spice than the restaurant pour. The nose is mostly mid-range note that ends on a high vanilla as you dig deep. Nice smooth, full bodied texture. A sweet treat. Sugar overtakes the tongue, butterscotch transitions to a punch in the face of vanilla. Really good dessert bourbon. Might be my favorite wheater outside of Weller and Makers. Nice job Wilderness Trail, you won over a fan with this juice. -
Wilderness Trail Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon (Wheated Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 12, 2019Neat. Very nice sweet treat. Restaurant pour so nose is hard to review. Texture is fantastic, nice and thick. Super sweet on the tongue immediately, straight sugar. Gives way to waves of vanilla and caramel. -
Rebel Yell 10 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 8, 2019 (edited June 9, 2019)Neat. Returning to this a few weeks later after a lukewarm first impression. Nose is quite inviting. Oak gives way to vanilla and berries. But of floral. Lots of high notes after that initial oak. Some cinnamon lurking behind everything. Mmm better than I remember. Oak, vanilla, chocolate. Butterscotch. Lots of inviting desert flavors. Oak lingers. Upping my rating of this one. -
Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited August 9, 2019)Neat. Batch 19-03. Totally different MGP nose than I expected. That MGP brightness is there, but I get this peanut note front and center I was not expecting. Apricot. Vanilla. Cinnamon. Hint of oak. Not the expected MGP taste either. Very thick on the tongue. Has that granular sugar particle feel. Cinnamon and maple up front. Lots of dark notes. Chocolate. Oak. Vanilla legs for miles. That is unique MGP. Quite delicious. -
Neat. Party Source pick. Apples, cream and vanilla off the top of the nose. Nice, bright nose. Hint of oak and spice. The type of nose that gets you really excited for a sip. Definitely recognize the MGP of it. Nice mouth feel. Apples and brown sugar initially. Apples and vanilla gives way to that oak and spice. Hint of chocolate on the legs. Nice job Widow Jane and Party Source. I should have grabbed this long ago. Really good MGP.

Mayor Pingree 10 Year Single Barrel Blue Label Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed May 30, 2019 (edited August 31, 2019)Neat. Picnic Basket pick. Buttery vanilla, honey, sweet corn, apricot. Mostly these high bright notes but there is this mocha behind the scenes creeping around. Hint of dill that I would usually associate with a rye. (?). Nice creamy texture, dark and sweet on the front palate. Cocoa and brown sugar. Vanilla bomb all over all the sudden, gives way to some spice. Legs get me back to the chocolate and some rye like flavors again. These legs last for miles. Realllly dries the mouth out. I enjoyed this quite a bit. OKI is the only other MGP 10 year I have had. This has a ton more complexity than what I remember from the OKI but not quite the sweet dessert that made OKI so remember. If this opens up in a few weeks it has amazing potential. -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 29, 2019 (edited May 30, 2019)Neat. Gallenstein 16 pick. Nose is so well balanced. Caramel and barrel spice gives way to vanilla and a floral/mint note. Simultaneously gives you light and dark notes on the nose. Very thick mouth feel. Oak and brown sugar swarm the palate. Gives way to chocolate with a slight hint of vanilla on the nose. That is top notch. -
Neat. So solid. Caramel brittle with cracked pepper and a hint of oak. Creamy mouth feel. Caramel and sugar hit the palate. Hits with the pepper and transitions to vanilla. Vanilla legs last a decent time. This is my “everyday” bourbon. I like drinking this before I get into other things to reset my palate. Just delightful treat for such a low price. Love it!
