Neat. Intense vanilla all over the nose. Oak and spice as well. Something citrus hiding behind everything. Very nice on the nose. A thick, syrupy but not creamy texture on the tongue. Tons of brown sugar gives way to tons of vanilla. Gives way to oak. Vanilla legs for miles. It is incredibly smooth for a 107 and very flavorful. Delicious and enjoyable but also over priced. If it opens up though, I may change that last sentence.

Joseph Magnus Triple Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (Finished and Bottled in Washington DC), USA
Reviewed April 26, 2019Neat. Sherry and oak hit immediately. Baking spice. Vanilla. Very nice nose. Texture is thin. Flavor hits you over the head with sherry and cognac. There is even some harshness to it. Maple emerges. Vanilla. Ugh I can’t drink this. I’m sad. Nose was so good too. I hope this opens up. -
Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 26, 2019 (edited May 21, 2019)Neat. Amazing nose. Oak. Vanilla. Cherry. Pepper. Baking spice. Initial taste did not hit me right. I’m going to let it sit and clear my palate. It was all ethanol and grass. Little toasted marshmallow on the end. Going back a few minutes later. A delicious toasted marshmallow on the nose now too. Reminds me of a Woodford Double Oak the more it opens up. Thin, watery texture. Brown sugary initially. Cherry and berries. Vanilla. Wood flavors. Bitter, burnt coffee. First pour disappointed. I had this at a restaurant and thought it was great, this may just need to open up. 1920 is better thus far. -
Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 24, 2019 (edited May 19, 2019)Neat. Lots of interesting dark notes on the nose with shades of vanilla in between holding it all together. Cocoa and oak. Savory spice. Leather. Mouth feel is surprisingly thin and delicate. Char hits the palate first. Tons of sugary maple after. Lots of vanilla. It’s balanced and very delicate and bright. Legs continue with vanilla and have some good length. Going back to the nose, a nuttiness is more prevalent. It’s very delicious and approachable. -
Neat. Nose is all over the place. Initially hit with buttery corn and then the sherry influence takes over. Vanilla. Baking spice. Very smooth mouth feel, sherry influence dominates again. Lots of spice and pepper, unexpectedly. Sherry legs for miles. Get more oak as I return to the nose. I am all over the place on it. I find it interesting, I keep drinking it, keep finding different flavors. But I don’t actually like it. I don’t want another glass right now.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Four Grain Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 17, 2019 (edited January 4, 2020)Neat. This is a desert. Vanilla bomb on the noise. One of the creamiest mouth feels in memory. Vanilla bomb with nice legs on the taste. Other flavors rhyme with what I would expect from EH Taylor. $35 for the pour. Glad to cross it off my list! Very good. -
Joseph Magnus Straight Bourbon (Whiskey & Barrel Nite Private Barrel)
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed April 15, 2019 (edited November 5, 2020)Neat. DEP store pick. Powerful nose on this one. One to sit and deconstruct. Lot of oak. Cocao. Baking spice. Vanilla. Caramel. Buttery corn. Some nice fruit, cherry. Really hits every note on the wheel the more you explore it. Probably one of the strongest first impressions on the nose I can recall. Hard to believe this 122 proof too. I can bury deep and get no burn. Nice creamy mouth feel, sugar and cinnamon hit the palate. Waves of flavors on the taste. It’s really really good. Chocolate and oak on the front, gives way to tons of vanilla. Vanilla gives way to spice on the legs. Legs go for miles. Going back to the nose after a few sips. A nutty note emerges and that vanilla makes a more dominant presence. This is a treat.
